Commentary During Books Soul to Take

Vicky is desperate to make her mark, in a world which just doesn't seem to notice her. Silence and smiles hide the pain that Nell is keeping to herself. Sarah's dreams of having a family seem hopeless. And then there's Shannon, who's in trouble at school yet again. But what these four women don't know is that someone - or something - is watching them. A much-recycled soul, suspended between one life and the next, realises that Vicky, Nell, Sarah and Shannon are embarking on their journey towards Motherhood. As memories from past incarnations return to this Soul, it becomes clear that one of these women will be chosen to guide it once more. Soul to take explores what it is to become a parent and considers the possibility that actually, our children are the ones who carefully select us.

Criticism Regarding Books Soul to Take
There has to be more to life than we're born, we live the best we can and then that's it - we're worm food - right?I've always thought there is more to life, but I guess I have never selected a religion or a firm belief in anything. The whole idea of reincarnation appeals to me, but I would not say I have spent hours considering it.This book challenged me to think about my world. Some of the silly things I spend time and money on. It got me wondering about life - you don't often get that from a

I read this book at roughly the same time as I read A Long Time Gone. I'd love to pretend this was some sort of calculated selection on my part, but there are certain parallels between these excellent reads.Soul to take moves you through the lives of four very real women who are all sailing the good ship to motherhood. I say these women are real because you really get to know them. In the age of airbrushing, social media portrayals of perfect lives and moms, super-diets and botox - I love the

I have seen the other reviews on this book and they do a great job of summarizing the plot, how you feel while you're reading it and what a great job Bateman does of drawing you in to the characters - present and past.So I guess I'll take a different route. This book is lovely. Everything about it is classy. It's deep without being tough to read. It's intelligent without long words or over-researched content. It's just a good read.Whenever you take an Indie book on you are rolling the dice. I did

Ok. I struggled with this book at first. The whole 'soul' thing took me by surprise really - even though it's in the title! I wasn't expecting a deep book like this.I nearly gave up, I was just not connecting. So proud of myself that I didn't.I don't do reviews really but I just wanted to post that if you start this book and struggle like I did - stick it out. The second half takes you on a bit of a journey and the end is quite exquisite :)

Writer of Short Stories, Tall Tales and Long To Do Lists.Helen Bateman studied English Language and Literature at Lancaster University and has taught both subjects at Secondary School level. She was born in Ashington, Northumberland but now lives in Yorkshire with her husband and looks after their three children full time. Writing is something Helen has always enjoyed and she feels blessed to now

A lovely story. As a mother myself I feel this book really captures some of the highs, lows, insecurities and tribulations one faces without an accompanying 'being a mom' handbook. One of the characters in particular was almost disarmingly parallel to my own experiences. The warm way the characters are drawn by the author really brings you in to the novel making it a compelling read.A very good read.
